Amongst the numerous hotspots in India, all of them worth-travelling, the part that we liked the most is Kashmir- the paradise on earth. A beautiful combination of lakes, valleys, and stunning gardens, Kashmir is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque locations in the country.
Start your trip with a Shikara ride on the dark and divine water of Dal Lake in Srinagar. Soak yourself in the breathtaking views of the beautiful mountains that surround the lake. I could feel my summer itching being relieved by the cool breezy winds of Srinagar.
We were told a lot about the tourist attractions in India; however Kashmir stood a way ahead from our expectations. View of the apple orchards and saffron fields are beautiful but the towering Chinar trees that look like red spires rising from the landscapes of Kashmir are larger than life spectacles. They are called as ‘Booune’ in the local language of Kashmir and can be seen in every house of the Kashmir. They are long-living tree and Kashmir is believed to house Chinar trees as old as 700 years.
We realised that Kashmir is so much more than what we had read about it. No books or travel guide can best describe the soothing feel to hear babbling sounds of the streams that run parallel to the houses, or the view of snow white hills, the love for beautiful Kashmiri women draped in stunning traditional attire, or the thrilling experience of Gulmarg Gondola, the highest cable cars in the world.
Nestled right in the Himalayas, Gulmarg is both a winter and summer destination with a perennial flow of tourists all year around. No one really lives here, except for the staff of around 40 hotels which are built here for tourists. Gulmarg is also the proud owner of the highest golf course in the world.
And how can I forget mentioning our skiing experience there. Oh! What fun.
Let me tell you that Gulmarg is also counted as the largest ski resorts in Asia. We lived the words of Incredible India Travel in real ways. After hours and hours of skiing we were frozen to death and therefore, warmed up ourselves with the local drink called kahwa. It had a taste unmatchable to any other drink we had tried in our lives, and also the aroma of it, I could sprinkle some on my sleeves as a perfume!
We also savoured some delectable local cuisines and our favourite was surely the Rogan josh- a non-vegetarian spicy dish of the state.
However, after exploring the rest of Kashmir like Sonamarg, Yousmarg, Betab Valley and the picturesque Drass, it was time to bid adieu to this life changing destination of ours. We returned to our country and the next thing we did was to plan another trip to other tourist destinations in India.
